Favourite Free Yoga Resources for Beginners

Updated: Nov 15, 2020

Are you having trouble sleeping? Feeling stressed after a long day at work or school? Yoga is a great way to relieve the effects of stressors on your body. It's also extremely easy to practice at home because very little equipment is needed, it's not too complicated to try on your own and doesn't require much time to complete a good session. Here are our top resources to begin a yoga routine!

The Resources

Adriene's beginner yoga series is easy to follow, very relaxing and informative on how to maximize your yoga practice. Adriene also has videos that outline how to do foundational yoga poses properly to start your practice on a solid base that can be built on.

Time: The videos range from 3 to 50 minutes, with the majority around 20. The short videos make it perfect to sneak in first thing in the morning or before going to sleep!

Difficulty: From the well-explained videos and simple flows in her beginner series, Yoga With Adriene is not too difficult which makes it the best series to start with!

I've been a fan of Ekhart yoga since I first tried one of Ester's beginner videos in 2014. On this channel, there are almost endless videos that are dedicated to everything from Yoga for Runners to Yoga for The Hands & Wrists. There is everything you could ask for!

Time: The videos that are dedicated to a specific purpose such as hand and wrist yoga, are often shorter at around 3-5 minutes. The actual "classes" that focus on more of the body can range anywhere from 20 minutes to just over an hour.

Difficulty: All of the videos feature an instructor going through the moves with you to ensure you are following along but these tend to be a faster pace compared to Adriene's beginner series. I would recommend graduating to these once you are feeling confident with sessions dedicated to beginners.

I have also been a long time follower of Blogilates since 2013. Though not exclusively yoga, there are so many free Pilates videos and helpful tips on her website. The stretching playlist is great because it focuses a lot on the legs which are often tight from workouts and everyday life.

Time: From 4 minutes to about a half-hour, these are some of the shortest videos that offer a good full body stretch within about 10-15 minutes on average. Perfect to end your workout with or start your day!

Difficulty: The stretches themselves can be tough especially for beginners, but overall the routines are not too complicated. These videos are good to do once you build up some lower body mobility!

If you’re looking for an easy way to mix up your workout routine, relieve some stress, and improve your sleep then yoga is here for you!
